Job summary

Stantec in Southern California is seeking an Associate Biologist to join the Ecosystems Group in San Bernardino. The role combines field and office work, leading field teams on multi-disciplinary projects for a range of clients including energy, transportation, and development.

You will mentor junior staff, coordinate with clients and regulators, and help develop permitting strategies and proposals. Occasional overnight travel is required as part of project work.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in ecology or related field.
• Strong botanical survey, habitat mapping, and vegetation sampling skills are a plus.
• Experience leading and mentoring field teams on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Willingness to travel overnight locally and outside southern California.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor project field teams and support project managers on development projects.
• Schedule or lead teams for field tasks, such as surveys and vegetation assessments.
• Provide training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring to junior staff.
• Plan, prepare, and review technical reports or portions of environmental assessments.
• Contribute to RFPs by defining scope and cost and preparing proposal sections.
• Pursue new business opportunities and contribute to technical proposals.
• Coordinate with clients and regulators to communicate survey results.
• Assist with permitting strategies, permit packages, and agency negotiations.
• Oversee field work and travel as needed.
