NV5 is seeking a full-time Senior Biologist to join our Northeast Region Environmental team in Morristown, NJ. The role focuses on natural resource and threatened and endangered species projects, with flexibility for candidates in NY or Philadelphia.

You will manage projects, lead surveys, and coordinate data collection and reporting under field conditions. Travel to project sites and collaboration with staff, agencies, and clients are required.

Qualifications

• BS degree in biology, ecology, wildlife or similar curriculum.
• Excellent writing skills and ability to present field data in reports.
• High attention to detail and strong organization.
• Willingness to travel and assist staff on projects.
• Comfort with GPS units and survey equipment.
• Must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license and pass a drug screen.

Job description

Position Summary

NV5 is seeking a full-time Senior Biologist to join our Northeast Region Environmental team. The Senior Biologist will provide technical expertise and assistance associated with environmental services projects with primary focus on natural resource and threatened and endangered species related projects. This opportunity is in Morristown, NJ, however we are open to candidates in New York or Philadelphia as well.

Responsibilities

The individual should have field experience and the necessary permits, skills, and experience to capture, handle and identify eastern United States threatened and endangered species.

• Responsible for project management duties on assigned projects.
• Lead, coordinate and conduct wetland delineations and threatened and endangered species surveys.
• Work well with others in environmentally challenging field conditions
• Oversee collection and interpretation of field data and preparation of technical reports
• Communicate between staff, managers, agency personnel and clients.
• Complete project tasks within deadlines and budgets.
• Participate in field work, data collection, and technical report preparation of other natural resource related projects including wetland delineations, stream determinations, permitting and other species surveys.
• Other duties, as required.

Requirements

• High level of attention to detail and organization
• Willingness to travel and assist other environmental services staff with varying project work.
• Must be comfortable with computers and submeter handheld GPS units or other similar GPS based survey equipment.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license and pass a drug screen prior to employment
• Possess strong wildlife and plant identification skills and assist with various surveys, including habitat evaluations and species-level surveys. Experience in New Jersey Pinelands Area a plus.
• Experience with transportation-related and energy projects
• Ability to perform work at night and willingness to travel for consecutive days/nights with the potential for frequent schedule changes
• Demonstrable experience with preparation of ESA Section 7 Consultation

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Wildlife Biologist/Certified Ecologist, listed on a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) or state approved species-specific surveyor list, OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER

Compensation - $90-$140k depending on experience.

• Ability to carry heavy equipment (approximately 50 lbs.) long distances in field conditions
• Must be able to wade in water, walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to walk and/or stand up to 10-12 hours a day on occasion.
• Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
