Base pay range

$115,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

About The Role

We are currently seeking a senior-level Biological Resources Permitting Consultant that will provide biological resource-related project management oversight of various projects mainly in California. The position will support multiple clients and on a wide variety of projects involving permitting and planning and compliance. This opportunity will be exciting for someone who has interest in continuing, and growing, a project permitting career and applying field expertise to responsible project authorizations. You will have the opportunity to draw on the diverse expertise of the larger team to grow your technical expertise. You will oversee a team responsible for delivering assignments within budget and on schedule. You will have the responsibility of ensuring preparation and management of a portfolio of projects with environmental regulatory authorizations. You will develop and maintain your existing professional relationships with the regulatory community. The candidate hired for this role will primarily work remotely and sometimes be expected to be onsite at various locations.

Salary is up to $150,000 and commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Biological Resources Permitting Consultant, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conduct biological assessments for permitting projects consistent with county, state and federal regulatory requirements
  • Supporting preparation of Coastal Development Permit packages for various jurisdictions within the California Coastal Zone. This includes technical writing, data and regulatory research and review, collection and integration of input from subject matter experts, delegating work where appropriate, GIS and development of recommendations for clients.
  • Perform habitat and vegetation mapping and wetland delineations
  • Support preparation and modifications of of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) permit packages.
  • Mentor early career biologists and regulatory permitting specialists and provide technical QA/QC assistance on deliverables.
  • Conducting surveys and monitoring for special status species
  • Design and implement mitigation strategies
  • Oversee permit compliance as projects enter the construction phase
  • Facilitate agency negotiation of permit conditions

Qualifications

Candidates should hold an advanced degree in biology, chemistry, environmental health or similar field. The ideal candidate will have:

  • 10+ years of environmental consulting experience with regulatory permitting and impact assessments in the transportation and communications infrastructure sectors related to CEQA/ NEPA (surveys, analyses and impact mitigations), California Coastal Commission, Section 404 and Section 401 of the Clean Water Act and Section 1602 of the California Fish and Game Code.
  • Technical writing and analysis skills; strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Positive outlook, self-starter, who has a collaborative work ethic.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of field biologists.
