Job summary

EPAM is seeking an experienced Senior Bioinformatics Engineer to join our Life Sciences practice, intersecting technology and biology. You will develop scalable data processing pipelines and robust bioinformatics solutions for complex biological problems.

Responsibilities include leading technical solutions, collaborating with scientists and engineering teams, ensuring code quality, and contributing to the full SDLC while optimizing databases and workflows for large-scale omics data.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of Python programming with object-oriented principles.
• Experience with version control systems, API concepts, and basic SDLC.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and data structures/algorithms.
• Background in Molecular Biology fundamentals.
• Experience with bioinformatics tools and omics data analysis (RNA-seq, DNA-seq, ChIP-seq).
• Experience with one workflow language (Nextflow, WDL, CWL, Snakemake).
• Understanding of bioinformatics data ecosystems and file formats (VCF, FASTA, BAM).
• Basic biostatistics knowledge.

Requirements

• Experience with one of the bioinformatics workflow description languages (Nextflow, WDL, CWL, Snakemake, or others)
• Understanding of bioinformatics data ecosystems, including major biological databases, standard file formats (VCF, FASTA, BAM, etc.), and associated data management workflows
• Basic knowledge of biostatistics
• Nice to have Knowledge of system design, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile methodologies
• Familiarity with Linux environments, containerization, and cloud platforms
• Experience working on High Performance Computing Environments
• Skills in data analysis and engineering, including running bioinformatics pipelines on a large scale
• Advanced knowledge of bioinformatics algorithms and expert-level understanding of bioinformatics data resources
• Advanced biostatistics and deep understanding of molecular biology concepts
• Experience with multi-omics data integration
