Job description

We are looking for a Scientific Data & Systems Specialist to join our team and support data-driven initiatives within the life sciences and drug discovery environment.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of scientific research, data management, and computational technologies, helping ensure that complex biological data is accurately curated, harmonized, validated, and integrated across scientific systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curate, maintain, and update scientific data within internal systems, including large-molecule registration systems and LIMS.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, reproducibility, and adherence to established data standards.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to retrieve and work with data from relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Automate repetitive data-processing activities using Python, R, Bash, or Perl.
  • Support bioinformatics activities using sequence alignment tools such as BLAST and CLUSTALW.
  • Work with public biological databases including UniProt, GenBank, and Ensembl to validate scientific data.
  • Develop unit and functional tests to maintain the quality and stability of data-processing code.
  • Communicate data analysis results and technical findings to scientists, product owners, software developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Use tools such as Jupyter or R Notebooks to support analysis, documentation, and collaboration.
Requirements
  • B.S., Master’s, or PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative/scientific field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a scientific, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or related industry environment.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language, preferably Python, R, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and packages such as Biopython, Bioconductor, or BioPerl.
  • Experience working with biological databases such as UniProt and Ensembl and with sequence analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly around scientific data quality, standards, and documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed and cross-functional teams.
