The University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time Bioinformatics Analyst to support research in the Brooke Lab within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. You will conduct cutting-edge bioinformatics analyses focusing on viral genomics and single-cell analyses, and help develop tools for diverse data types.

Ideal candidates have advanced bioinformatics training, strong communication, and experience working autonomously in an interdisciplinary setting with collaborators.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree with significant bioinformatics experience.
• 6+ years of research experience in viral genomics and computational biology.
• Hands-on experience with single cell RNAseq datasets.
• Experience developing data analytical pipelines for NGS data.
• Ability to translate life scientist goals into analytical plans.
• Team player with initiative and communication skills.
• Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• 70%: design and implement informatics workflows for Brooke lab projects; manage data structures and backups.
• 20%: train lab members to run bioinformatics analyses independently.
• 10%: lead development of new computational tools and run a journal club for computational virology.
