Job summary

AbbVie in South San Francisco, CA is seeking a Senior Scientist 1 in Bioassay Development within CMC Biologics. onsite role five days a week, focusing on development and optimization of potency and binding assays for complex biologics.

The candidate will work with Discovery, CMC, QC, and QA to enable IND submissions, author technical reports, and transfer methods to external partners, with a strong emphasis on establishing robust, validated assays.

Qualifications

• Must possess MS degree in biology, biochemistry, cell/molecular biology, or related field and 1 year of academic research or industry experience as a development scientist.
• Experience developing binding potency assays (ELISA, TR-FRET, Octet, flow cytometry) to characterize/test protein therapeutics.
• Experience developing cell-based functional potency assays (cytotoxicity, reporter gene, proliferation, effector function) to characterize/test protein therapeutics.
• Familiarity with data analysis software (GraphPad PRISM, PLA, SoftMax Pro) and troubleshooting potency assays.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize complex bioassays and target-binding potency assays for complex biotherapeutics.
• Collaborate with analytical teams and cross-functionally with Discovery, CMC, QC, and QA to support drug development and IND submissions.
• Qualify/validate/transfer potency methods to external partners and author technical documents for regulatory submissions.
• Develop new techniques and technologies; perform troubleshooting and present findings to cross-functional teams.
