Job summary

Kikiktagruk Inupiat Corporation seeks a senior Bioactivity Assay Development Consultant to guide NIH drug discovery programs, including HEAL and BPN, applying deep pharma expertise to non-addictive pain therapies.

The consultant serves as an assay development expert on Lead Development Teams, coordinating with NIH staff, CROs, and partners; 3–10 hours/week on projects plus regular teleconferences and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a scientific discipline.
• 15+ years of assay development experience in a pharmaceutical industry setting.
• 15+ years applying automated technologies and robotics relevant to pharmaceutical assays.
• Broad experience applying diverse cellular techniques in pharmaceutical assays.
• Extensive experience managing or serving as a senior leader on drug discovery projects.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively with multidisciplinary teams at a senior level.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Strong computer and software literacy.
• Ability to educate multidisciplinary team members and build consensus.
• Ability and willingness to participate actively in Lead Development Team discussions.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate bioactivity assays and recommend strategies to optimize and validate assays.
• Establish milestones for assay optimization and validation.
• Provide guidance on design and interpretation of in vivo assays, including cognitive and behavioral tests.
• Identify assay-related developmental challenges and propose practical solutions.
• Advise and help manage programs spanning lead optimization, IND-enabling activities, and early clinical development.
• Serve as a technical resource to LDT members on assay requirements and development strategy.
• Collaborate with NIH staff, CROs, and partners on investigative studies.
• Participate in LDT meetings, typically by teleconference every 1–2 weeks.
• Prepare for and contribute to LDT activities with 3–10 hours per week.
• Accompany NIH staff to CRO facilities when requested.
• Work across projects from exploratory research through preclinical safety to IND/clinical development.
