Job summary

Penn Interactive, part of PENN Entertainment, is hiring for a software engineering leader to design and operate scalable betting, gaming, and data systems. You will build GraphQL APIs, gRPC services, and robust data pipelines that power sportsbook wagering, casino transactions, and regulatory workflows.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across North America, mentor engineers, and drive end-to-end feature delivery in a fast-paced, compliant environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong foundation in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms and software design.
• Experience with production systems at scale and identifying improvements in a production environment.
• Experience with on-call rotations and owning release cycles end-to-end.
• Familiarity with modern web frameworks and API development (Phoenix, Rails, Fast API, Laravel, Node).
• Designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for multi-client surfaces.

Responsibilities

• Design, scale, and performance-tune GraphQL APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries powering critical betting and transaction engines.
• Own high-scope technical problems and draft proposals for leadership.
• Design and deliver new features end-to-end in an agile environment.
• Identify bottlenecks and risks in production and drive scalability improvements.
• Set up monitoring and alerting in Datadog and ensure reliable operations.
• Mentor engineers and review code across teams.
