Job summary

Shoals Technologies in Portland, TN, is seeking a seasoned Director of Operations, BESS, to drive end-to-end manufacturing performance for the Battery Energy Storage Systems product line. You will own manufacturing, assembly, test, and commissioning, collaborating with engineering, supply chain, program management, and field service to deliver high-quality products at scale.

Qualifications

• The candidate has 10+ years of progressive operations leadership, with ≥5 years in director or senior manager roles.
• Direct experience in BESS, energy storage, power electronics, or related manufacturing.
• Proven track record scaling manufacturing operations and building high-performing teams.
• Deep knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead BESS operations across manufacturing, assembly, testing, commissioning, and field service.
• Own operational excellence and scalable processes to meet growth and margin targets.
• Align capacity with demand through partnerships with Engineering, PM, Supply Chain, and Sales.
• Build and develop a high-performing operations team with clear accountability.
• Oversee planning, resource allocation, and capacity management for on-time delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement using lean methods, root-cause analysis, and collaboration.
• Establish KPIs, dashboards, and reporting rhythms for performance visibility.
• Collaborate on design for manufacturability with Engineering for scale.
• Lead commissioning strategy with field service and customer teams.
• Manage supplier and contract manufacturer relationships to meet quality and cost goals.
• Ensure safety, regulatory, and environmental standards across operations.
• Support budget development and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
• Partner with Quality to enforce BESS quality standards and corrective actions.
• Represent Operations in executive reviews and customer forums with clear updates.
