Job summary

Duke Energy seeks a senior engineer to support the technical evaluation and approval of BESS equipment for its battery fleet. You will work with RRE, PMC, and Supply Chain to manage AVL and drive design optimization across front‑of‑the‑meter and transmission‑connected storage projects.

The role requires extensive collaboration with suppliers and internal teams, including field testing, factory visits, and compliance with utility interconnection standards. Travel 15–25% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (MS may be considered in lieu).
• Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support on technical matters throughout development with a focus on BESS equipment approval.
• Support factory visits and FAT testing of BESS equipment.
• Coordinate with RRE, PMC, and Supply Chain on AVL and project needs.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, stability, and protection analyses for storage assets.
• Develop optimization tools for Duke Energy storage, microgrid, and solar-plus-storage projects.
