Job summary

Ascend Performance Materials in Alvin, TX seeks a Sr. Mode Manager - Barge & Rail to lead rail and barge transportation operations across the Americas.

You will partner with Procurement and Supply Chain to optimize freight spend, ensure safety, reliability, and compliance, and provide daily visibility into asset status. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in SCM or related field, at least five years in logistics or carrier management with rail/barge exposure, and strong proficiency in SAP/TMS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in SCM, Logistics, Business, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in transportation/logistics or carrier management; rail/barge experience preferred.
• Proficiency with SAP and Transportation Management Systems.
• Ability to obtain US DOT Hazmat certification.

Responsibilities

• Support rail and barge transportation strategy with Procurement and Supply Chain organizations.
• Develop raw material supply schedules with Supply Chain.
• Collaborate with plant personnel to ensure barge loading, discharge, and rail transportation activities are safe and efficient.
• Provide daily visibility and tracking of transportation assets; communicate delays and impacts.
• Create and maintain rail customer shipment templates for consistent execution.
• Manage barge and rail fleet sizing, utilization, and equipment availability.
• Oversee barge and railcar maintenance programs and regulatory compliance.
• Work with government agencies and marine organizations regarding waterway conditions and expedited lockages.
• Develop contingency plans and support service recovery for transportation disruptions.
