We are seeking a Senior Backup and Storage Engineer to do the following :
- Support US Marine Corps (USMC) enterprise-level hybrid cloud data center and deliver reliable, secure, effective storage, backup, and archiving capabilities.
- Enable USMC worldwide customers to execute critical missions.
What you will do :
As a Senior Backup and Storage Engineer, you will support USMC customers worldwide by providing critical backup, storage, archive, and disaster recovery solutions for the USMC enterprise application hosting environment.
- Manage Storage, Backup, Archive, and Capacity activities across Classified, Unclassified, Staging environments on-premises and in hybrid-cloud environments including Azure, AWS, and VMWare Cloud on AWS.
- Engineer, troubleshoot, operate, and maintain on-premises and cloud-integrated storage, backup, and tape-archiving systems.
- Monitor, triage, prioritize, and assign incidents and work orders as part of Data Center workload and incident response processes.
- Develop, document, submit, and execute changes to the storage and backup infrastructure.
- Provide secure, reliable, high-availability storage and backup services for hosted customers and data center infrastructure.
- Manage capacity reporting and monitoring to ensure successful data center hosting service delivery and support evolving architecture and customer requirements.
- Serve as the technical expert in the design, engineering, operation, sustainment, and modification of on-premises and cloud-based Storage Area Networks and associated firmware, hardware, applications, and backup infrastructure to support recovery of data and systems across all supported environments.
- Collaborate with other teams to provide Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations capabilities in line with the program roadmap.
- Coordinate with vendors and government engineering staff for installation, upgrade, configuration, administration, automation, and optimization of storage and backup infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain storage, backup, and capacity monitoring plans, and provide documentation and training for troubleshooting and incident response.
- Ensure system security in compliance with DOD / USMC / HCS policies, including patching and auditing.
- Automate environment management including routine checks, reporting, event notifications, software updates, and service packs.
- Plan for capacity needs, monitor, and submit recommendations for expansion or contraction requirements.
- Support 24/7 operations, including on-call duties and occasional night and weekend patching or implementations.
Qualifications :
- BS degree with 10-12 years, MS with 8-10 years, PhD with 5-7 years, or HS diploma plus 16 years of experience.
- IAT II Certification required.
- Experience with NetBackup or hybrid-cloud backup solutions required.
- Senior-level experience with technologies such as Dell Unity Storage, NetApp SAN/NAS, Cisco MDS, Brocade Fibre Channel Switches, VMWare NSX-T, vSAN, vRealize Operations, and DOD-secure configurations (STIG, FIPS).
- Experience with tape-archiving solutions and implementing DOD/USMC security solutions.
- Proficiency in automating tasks for high-availability storage and backup environments.
- Strong understanding of ITSM / ITIL processes and change management.
- Experience working within Agile and traditional project teams.
- Leadership and collaboration skills within diverse operational and process teams.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining SAN/NAS systems like NetBackup, Dell Unity, NetApp, HP 3PAR, StoreEver/StoreOnce.
- Experience integrating cloud storage solutions (Azure, AWS, VMC on AWS).
- Experience with proactive monitoring and incident management tools like vROPS.
- Experience collaborating with virtual and operational teams, including Oracle and SQL environments.
