Job summary

Whisker is seeking a Senior Manager, Backend Services to lead the teams behind our digital experience, robot services, IoT data intake, and cloud infrastructure. You will ensure reliability, scalability, and on-time delivery while developing a high-performing distributed engineering team.

Role requires hands-on leadership, design reviews, and collaboration with firmware, mobile, QA, data, and product teams to align roadmap with device-to-cloud interactions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Experience leading backend services at consumer scale with distributed systems and APIs.
• Strong track record in API design, scalability, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Owns health, roadmap, and technical direction of backend domains end to end.
• Ensure availability and latency requirements of devices in customers' homes.
• Owns device-to-cloud contract including telemetry schemas and versioning.
• Lead API design and evolution for mobile and web clients.
• Scale IoT data intake with growing device volume and analytics pipelines.
• Manage a distributed team across time zones with contractors and full‑time staff.
• Own hiring, performance management, and career development for the team.
• Set expectations and growth paths using engineering competency framework.
