Job summary

PayPal is seeking a senior backend platform engineer for Venmo's Consumer Financial Services (CFS) domain in San Jose. You will own backend platform features, establish conventions, and drive multi-team initiatives with product and security partners.

You will apply industry best practices, mentor engineers, and shape engineering standards while ensuring scalability, security, and compliance across distributed services on AWS.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• Experience with backend platforms and security-critical systems at scale.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for Venmo's CFS platform including authentication, authorization, and fraud risk systems.
• Lead architectural reviews and define engineering standards across the org.
• Mentor and develop senior engineers while shaping how the team thinks through design docs and reviews.
• Collaborate with Product, Legal, Compliance and Security to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
