Job summary

PayPal's Venmo Data Platforms team builds and runs production data stores including Aurora MySQL, DocumentDB, Cassandra, Redis, and OpenSearch. The Staff Database Engineer will lead by example, mentoring engineers to improve reliability and scale of data systems.

You will design and operate cloud-native databases, drive automation, and collaborate with infrastructure and product teams to enable data-driven innovation and platform resilience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience mentoring and developing leads and engineers.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system.
• Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow.
• Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives.
• Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor.
• Travel Percent: 0%.
• Trusted to represent PayPal to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations.
