Job summary

Harvey is seeking a Senior Backend Platform Engineer to build and operate the cohesive backend platform that powers all services. You will design shared frameworks and libraries to improve developer experience, reliability, and performance across teams.

In this mid-to-senior role, you will lead API design, service templates, and versioned interfaces, while collaborating with Model Infrastructure and DX teams to enable GenAI-native workloads at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, backend or platform-focused.
• Proficiency in Python and backend fundamentals (APIs, data stores, concurrency).
• Experience with Flask/FastAPI and microservice architectures.
• Familiarity with Redis, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Proven ability to write well-tested code with CI and typing.
• Strong collaboration and communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Harvey's internal backend frameworks and libraries.
• Create and improve APIs, templates, and versioned interfaces.
• Adopt and promote async I/O and streaming patterns for performance.
• Design domain-specific abstractions for cross-cutting concerns.
• Embed reliability and observability with tracing, metrics, tests.
• Collaborate with Model Infrastructure to support GenAI workloads.
• Partner with Developer Experience and Infrastructure teams to integrate components.
• Work with product teams to gather feedback and document defaults.
