Xumo in Irvine, CA is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to lead backend design and development for our video streaming platform. You will handle video content processing, API server communication, and metadata delivery across devices.

The role emphasizes building scalable, reliable backend pipelines, data workflows, and schemas, with cloud deployment on Google Cloud and AWS in a Kubernetes environment. On-site 4 days, with 1 day remote.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building backend servers (Java).
• 5+ years building web service APIs (REST/SOAP) and HTTP/SSL.
• 5+ years operating databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB).
• 5+ years on Linux-based systems (CentOS, OSX).
• Strong experience with Docker on Kubernetes for microservices.
• Cloud experience (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure) and scalable backends.
• Experience with video content metadata, formats (HLS/MP4/DASH), and content recommendation systems.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes requirements to design system flow and processes.
• Develops data storage models based on functional needs.
• Defines API access patterns and service integration touchpoints.
• Partners with QA to document integration and test plans.
• Implements features through substantial coding effort and CI.
• Creates integration tests and automates service consumption.
• Maintains configuration and monitors live APIs and services.
• Works with security to close vulnerabilities and ensure standards.
