Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) for the Co-Experience team in San Mateo, CA. You will own the backend of the party system, enabling scalable, safe social interactions for a massive user base across servers and experiences.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive end-to-end initiatives, and raise the technical bar for junior engineers while focusing on reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in microservice architectures addressing scalability and reliability challenges.
• 3+ years building systems behind consumer-facing APIs handling large numbers of concurrent users.
• Strong understanding of server-side development and design principles; proficient in at least one compiled language (C#, C++, Java, Golang).
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to maximize engineering velocity and production-readiness.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate within a cross-functional team including product, design, UXR, frontend and backend engineering.
• Take end-to-end ownership from technical plans through to launch and measurable impact.
• Maintain, improve and scale the Roblox party system for millions of concurrent users with a safety-first mindset.
• Partner with other teams (matchmaking, recommendations, voice, economy) to create integrated, safe, performant systems.
• Uphold high quality standards while iterating on features with live production traffic and resolving escalations.
• Raise the team's technical bar and accelerate junior engineers' productivity.
