Job summary

Hume AI in New York City seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Backend Engineering team to build backend microservices powering Hume’s voice AI platform. You will collaborate with data plane engineers, UI engineers, researchers, ML engineers, product managers, and infra teams to bring new capabilities into production.

Qualifications

• Experience building server-side distributed systems.
• Strong networking knowledge (TCP, TLS, HTTP, WebSocket).
• Proficiency in at least one systems language (Rust, Go, C, or C++).
• Strong Linux, debugging, and profiling production systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend microservices powering Hume’s voice AI APIs.
• Develop public-facing and internal APIs with security, reliability, and high availability.
• Diagnose complex production issues across application, OS, containers, and networks.
• Implement capabilities like real-time audio streaming and model inference integrations.
• Design control plane APIs to coordinate inference workloads across data planes.
• Profile and optimize latency, throughput, memory usage, and resource utilization.
• Improve observability, resilience, testability, and operational safety of the platform.
• Make architectural tradeoffs balancing reliability, performance, and velocity.
• Collaborate with research and product teams to productionize new model capabilities.
• Write clear technical documentation for the systems and features you build.
