Job summary

AmaWaterways River Cruises is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to design, develop and maintain backend services powering consumer and partner digital products, from inception to deployment. You will build scalable APIs for inventory, pricing, leads and guest experiences using .NET or Node.js, and design event-driven architectures with reliability and audit trails.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Five+ years backend software development with API design and delivery.
• Strong experience building RESTful and GraphQL APIs using HTTP methods.
• Proficient in .NET (C#) and/or Node.js for service-oriented architectures.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Azure Service Bus).
• Relational DB design (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and caching (Redis).
• Knowledge of secure coding, authentication/authorization, and CI/CD.
• Hands-on cloud experience (Microsoft Azure) and infrastructure-as-code.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, code, test, and debug complex backend services and APIs.
• Build RESTful and GraphQL APIs exposing inventory, pricing, leads, and identity.
• Own configuration and maintenance of critical backend services.
• Design event-driven integrations with reliability and audit trails.
• Develop and maintain caching and data synchronization across systems.
• Create design specs, test plans, and unit tests to meet requirements.
• Integrate with external systems (Salesforce, email providers, reservation system).
• Optimize performance, scalability, and low-latency read/write paths.
• Implement identity controls using Auth0 or equivalent; ensure security compliance.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated build/test/deployment across environments.
• Troubleshoot issues, participate in on-call, and mentor junior developers.
