About the opportunity

We are seeking a purpose-driven Senior Backend Engineer to work on a critical, stealth project on our DriveShield team, focusing on enhancing driver safety and making a real-world impact on millions of lives.

You will play a key role in building scalable, high-performance backend systems that support Jerry’s rapid growth. This is an exciting chance to be part of the team that aims to grow from 5M to 50M customers and disrupt a $2T market while driving innovation at scale.

How you will make an impact

• Concentrate on non-functional requirements of backend applications, including service availability, scalability, reliability (fault tolerance), observability, and security.

• Oversee system design and architecture to ensure robust, scalable solutions.

• Develop and optimize stream processing applications using Kafka and Flink.

• Profile and enhance application performance.

• Collaborate with data scientists to deploy and integrate models in production.

• Handle data processing, sanitization, validation, and data QA.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.

• Proficiency in at least one core language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, JavaScript).

• Expertise in Kafka, Flink, and AWS.

• Experience building stream processing applications.

• Knowledge of system programming.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

• Proven track record of shipping products and features quickly.

• Startup experience at a high-growth company (preferred).

• Bonus: experience working with geospatial data.
