Job summary

Alchemy is seeking a senior backend engineer to build and operate data systems that turn blockchain activity into developer-friendly data. You will own ingestion, indexing, storage, and API serving, ensuring data is correct, fresh, and fast to query.

You will collaborate with Product and customer teams to understand needs, ship improvements, and measure impact on reliability, performance, and cost. Experience with ClickHouse, Kafka, and distributed databases is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Track record of designing, shipping, and operating production backend or distributed data systems.
• Strong programming skills in a production backend language, plus experience with databases and query performance.
• Experience with consistency, partitioning, asynchronous processing, and failure recovery.
• Ability to diagnose production problems and improve the system beyond the immediate fix.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate blockchain ingestion, indexing, storage, and API-serving systems.
• Handle reorganizations, retries, duplicate events, and backfills without data loss.
• Improve query performance and data freshness.
• Make system observability clear to the team and customers.
• Extend API capabilities and chain coverage with tests for behavior differences.
• Develop streaming and event-delivery with ordering, replay, failure recovery guarantees.
• Reduce data storage and processing costs through architectural changes.
• Participate in production support and incident response for owned systems.
• Maintain monitoring, runbooks, safe rollouts, and fixes to prevent recurrence.
