Job summary

Taboola is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for the R&D Team in Downtown Los Angeles. You’ll build and scale backend services powering Realize, Taboola’s performance platform used by hundreds of millions daily.

You’ll work on high‑scale data pipelines, RESTful services, and event-driven architectures, with AI-assisted coding and on-call responsibilities. The role offers a hybrid schedule with 3 days in-office in LA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar.
• 5+ years of hands-on Java coding and Spring Framework experience.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Cassandra).
• Experience with big data tools (Spark, Hadoop, BigQuery).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Git version control.
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and event-driven messaging (Kafka).
• Experience building real-time search/recommendation pipelines (Vespa/Elasticsearch/Solr).
• Ability to design scalable, high-performance systems and own end-to-end ownership.

Responsibilities

• Develop and scale backend services for Realize, Taboola's platform.
• Collaborate with Product and Architects to deliver robust solutions.
• Build data processing pipelines handling billions of events daily.
• Use AI coding assistants to accelerate prototyping and fixes.
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive root-cause analyses.
