Job summary

Gusto is seeking an experienced senior engineer to own backend services and APIs for money movement within Gusto Retirement. You will ship production code, handle real financial edge cases, and collaborate with product, compliance, and operations to translate requirements into reliable software.

The Financial Infrastructure team focuses on core money and asset flow systems, payments, settlements, and tax/compliance integrations. You’ll mentor peers and ship robust, well‑tested solutions at scale.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production products or platforms.
• Experience working on financial systems, payments, or other high‑correctness domains.
• Ability to own systems end‑to‑end, including production support and operational work.
• Collaborates well with PMs and cross‑functional partners to deliver scoped work.
• Mentor engineers and write clean, well‑tested code for scalable systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship services and APIs for money movement and financial integrations.
• Work on payments, settlements, reconciliation, and corrections involving real customer funds.
• Build and support payroll integration, KYB/KYC, 401k loans, billing and invoicing, and IRA workflows.
• Partner with product, compliance, and operations to scope work and deliver production‑ready solutions.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability, observability, and tooling.
• Mentor other engineers and ensure fast, reliable shipping.
