Job summary

Ally Financial is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to lead backend design, development, and support of enterprise apps. Focus on Java and cloud-native services with optional frontend contributions and strong ownership of deliverables.

You'll help drive engineering best practices, mentor teammates, and participate in agile ceremonies. Hybrid role; office presence three times weekly is expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience with Java, Spring Boot, and REST.
• Experience building backend systems, APIs, and microservices for large orgs or SaaS.
• Cloud experience (AWS) with serverless or EC2-based apps.
• Proficient in scripting (bash, Python, or JavaScript) and CI/CD tooling.
• Agile Scrum experience; strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with JSON, XML, and relational databases; ability to design solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and enterprise apps in Java.
• Contribute to frontend work when needed and support full-stack initiatives.
• Translate requirements into scalable designs; provide estimates and tradeoffs.
• Write clean, secure code; address vulnerabilities and push improvements.
• Participate in architecture discussions and drive technical decisions.
• Lead by mentoring, knowledge sharing, and guiding design approaches.
• Support automated testing, CI/CD, and production operations.
