Job summary

Base is building BaseOS, coordinating thousands of distributed batteries and services to power a resilient grid. As a senior/principal engineer, you define how the system works, set architectural standards, and own critical infrastructure end-to-end.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience with ownership of production systems.
• Proficiency in backend languages (Go, Python, Java) and distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and treating infra as a product.
• Ability to design end-to-end systems with ambiguity and strong engineering judgment.
• Product/business intuition and cross-functional leadership across hardware, deployments, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Own critical systems at scale: design, build, and operate core services with reliability and performance.
• Set architecture and standards across teams, raising the bar for software delivery.
• Operate across the stack using Golang and Python, spanning backend, APIs, and infra.
• Build systems coordinating the real world (e.g., Temporal) for deployments and device control.
• Treat infrastructure as a product using Terraform and AWS for scalable, repeatable infra.
• Collaborate with hardware, deployments, and operations leadership to solve cross-domain problems.
• Set pace and bar: make principled decisions and mentor less-senior engineers.
• Mentor and multiply by providing design feedback and code reviews.
