Job summary

Wag! Group Co. seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join our backend team in Miami. You will own the core backend API, enhance cloud infrastructure, and build AI-driven features at scale.

Ideal candidates have strong PHP/Laravel skills, Python experience, and a track record with AWS services, ECS, Lambda, and Terraform. This in-person role requires 5 days/week in our downtown Miami office and U.S. work authorization.

Qualifications

• Significant experience building and operating scalable backend systems in production.
• Demonstrated experience building software with AI coding agents and related tooling.
• Proficiency in PHP, ideally Laravel, and working proficiency in Python.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the backend platform from API schema to server and database in AWS.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and explain tradeoffs.
• Break down features into releasable components and estimate release schedules.
• Design and implement core products within our PHP and Laravel API, working from an OpenAPI specification.
• Build and enhance internal backend systems in Python, including AWS Lambda services, and collaborate with other units.
• Support production infrastructure by implementing AWS services with Terraform (ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, etc.).
• Integrate AI-powered solutions into the product and improve agent workflows for large codebases.
