Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build backend services for the Unified Merge Gate, integrating automated review findings, policy risk assessments, CI results, and human judgment into a single merge decision.

You will collaborate with Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, Codeflow, ZTSC, and repository owners to enable safe rollouts, observable decisions, and efficient developer workflows across GitHub and CI systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend or platform engineering experience.
• Strong backend and distributed-systems experience in Go or a comparable language.
• Experience designing APIs, durable state, failure recovery, observability, and safe rollout mechanisms.
• Experience with CI/CD, source-control integrations, developer infrastructure, or another high-consequence control plane.
• Strong security and authorization judgment and understanding of risk in production gates.
• Evidence of leading a cross-team technical project from design through migration and ownership.
• Hands-on AI fluency and ability to evaluate AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of Coinbase's Unified Merge Gate and explain how changes can be merged.
• Integrate automated review findings, policy and risk assessments, CI results, identity attestations, and human judgment into one merge decision.
• Build reliable backend services and integrations across GitHub, CI and Coinbase policy systems.
• Migrate repositories from fragmented legacy controls to the Unified Merge Gate with safe rollouts and observable decisions.
• Partner with Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, Codeflow, ZTSC, and repository owners to turn control requirements into usable workflows.
• Measure impact on human-review volume, time-to-merge, automated merge coverage, and defect escape rates.
