Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design, build, and operate scalable AI platform components. You will own critical decisions, develop gateways and runtimes for AI workloads, and ensure secure, observable operations used by millions of transactions daily.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin and distributed systems.
• Experience building with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks in production.
• Strong communication and ownership; proactive feedback.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions within the AI Platform team.
• Design and build the gateway, runtime, and evaluation services for AI workloads.
• Implement identity, quota, routing, caching, and failover controls.
• Partner with security, infra, and product engineering to set guardrails for agentic workloads.
• Create and monitor metrics; own on-call health and runbooks.
• Set and improve code review and design standards; mentor engineers.
