Job summary

LangChain is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join LangSmith’s observability, evaluation, and production reliability platform. You’ll build backend systems powering tracing, monitoring, and evaluation workflows, with a focus on scalable, reliable services and clean API design.

You’ll collaborate with full-stack engineers, product managers, and designers, optimize storage and queries for high-volume data, and champion testing, monitoring, and documentation to ensure production readiness.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience on complex products.
• Proficiency in Python or Go.
• Strong API design and data services experience.
• Experience with high-throughput or mission-critical systems.
• Ability to optimize backend performance and reliability.
• Experience with Postgres, Redis, and ClickHouse.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for LangSmith’s tracing, monitoring, and evaluation workflows.
• Collaborate on architectural decisions for performance and maintainability.
• Optimize storage and query performance for observability data.
• Ensure system reliability through testing, monitoring, and alerting practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including system design and API references.
• Work with full-stack engineers, product managers, and designers on new features.
