Job summary

Clera seeks a Backend Engineer to join a European fintech startup building trust infrastructure. You will design scalable systems that power high-trust workflows and collaborate to shape long-term architecture.

The role targets 5+ years of backend experience with production systems, and strong systems thinking. It is fully remote within European time zones; Austria is the primary location. Base salary EUR 116,000–146,000 annually, with no visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with production systems.
• Strong systems thinking and ability to reason about long term architecture.
• Clear communicator who collaborates well with teammates.
• Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in ambiguity with kindness and curiosity.
• Experience with one or more backend languages such as Node.js or TypeScript, Python, Go, or Java, and familiarity with building production systems.
• Experience designing scalable APIs and backend infrastructure for high volumes or high trust environments.
• Production experience with relational databases, automated testing, message queues, and containerized/cloud environments (Kubernetes, AWS, etc.).
• Background in fintech, payments, identity, or other regulated domains is a plus.

About the Role

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: EUR 116,000 to 146,000 annually. The company uses a uniform leveling system with consistent pay across roles at the same level. No visa sponsorship is provided; applicants must already have the right to work in Europe.

Work arrangement: fully remote within European time zones. Primary location: Austria.
