Job summary

Sunny Health AI in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale secure, enterprise-grade backend services powering trusted healthcare experiences.

You will work at the platform's core, creating systems that handle sensitive data with uncompromising security, reliability, and performance, collaborating with frontend, product, data, and security teams. This on-site role offers meaningful equity and a highly collaborative environment in SF.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Strong production experience building services in Rust.
• Proficiency with at least one additional backend language (Go/Node/Python/Java).
• Experience designing and operating production APIs and relational databases.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and observability tooling.
• Track record of building secure systems in regulated or high-trust environments.

• Define data models and integrate with third-party systems such as eligibility, claims, scheduling, and identity providers.
• Implement robust authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and alerting for production systems.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, data, and security teams to translate requirements into scalable architectures.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and on-call rotations to ensure system reliability.
• Continuously improve system performance, observability, and security posture.
