Job summary

tastytrade in Chicago is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Order Handling and Ledger Team. You will design, build, and own backend systems behind order handling, ledger, and settlement flows, influencing reliability at scale.

You will lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and partner with product and cross-functional teams. The role requires 10+ years of experience and deep backend expertise, with a pragmatic, autonomous mindset in a fast-paced fintech

Qualifications

10+ years of professional software engineering experience with leadership/mentoring
Deep expertise in backend systems concepts: idempotency, transactions, concurrency
Strong ability to learn new tech quickly and mentor others
Pragmatic use of AI for research, planning, coding, and reviews

Responsibilities

Design, build, and own the backend systems behind order handling, ledger, and settlement flows
Partner with product to scope features and oversee cross-functional implementation
Provide technical leadership and mentoring across the team
Lead code reviews focusing on design, quality, and performance
Monitor tech landscape and prototype new tools to improve solutions
Define engineering standards and be a go-to for critical decisions
Lead troubleshooting and production issue resolution
Share production ownership through on-call and operability requirements
