Job summary

Devengine seeks a Senior Backend Engineer for an advisory engagement on healthcare data systems. This part-time, remote role (US/Canada) focuses on data architecture, 837/835 EDI flows, and HIPAA-compliant design.

You will advise on ingestion pipelines, storage and business logic, with potential future hands-on ownership as the platform matures. This is an early-stage project with a prototype and no production pipelines yet.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience with healthcare data pipelines.
• Fluency in 837/835 EDI and eligibility/benefits formats.
• Experience building HIPAA-compliant systems from initial architecture.
• Track record owning clearinghouse or SFTP-based data ingestion in production.

Responsibilities

• Advise on design of production services sitting on top of the integration layer: data sync, storage, business logic.
• Shape the approach to clearinghouse and SFTP data ingestion pipelines.
• Advise on working with healthcare EDI formats, especially 837/835 and eligibility/benefits (270/271) responses.
• Pressure-test the plan for building HIPAA-compliant systems from the ground up.
