Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, seeks a Senior Database Administrator to design, manage, and optimize SQL Server databases across on‑premises and Azure with secure, governed architectures.

The role leads Azure‑based database initiatives, implements encryption and RBAC, and drives data governance, backup/recovery, and high availability while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with software teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• Strong knowledge of T‑SQL, SQL Server, and secure governance.
• Experience with Azure security, RBAC, encryption, and data protection.
• Familiarity with Azure data services and hybrid cloud architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage SQL Server databases on‑prem and in Azure with secure architectures.
• Tune performance, manage indexes, and optimize resources in Azure environments.
• Implement encryption, AAD authentication, and RBAC for data access control.
• Establish data governance, lineage, and metadata management practices.
• Develop backup, recovery, and high‑availability strategies across Azure services.
• Monitor security using Azure Defender, audit logs, and compliance tools; enforce governance.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues and collaborate with developers on secure schemas.
• Automate DBA tasks with T‑SQL, PowerShell, and Azure Automation.
• Lead migrations from on‑prem to Azure, ensuring secure data transfer and governance.
