Job summary

Makai builds and runs cloud platforms for clients, standing up reusable Terraform foundations and adapting them per environment. You’ll own platform design, build from an empty subscription, keep systems running, and ensure cohesive integration across the whole stack.

This senior role requires sizing unfamiliar setups, making architecture calls, and delivering reliable results on Azure with a focus on scalable, secure, and auditable deployments.

Qualifications

• Azure production experience required.
• Terraform on Azure with state management and migrations.
• Azure networking including VNets, subnets, NAT, NSGs, UDRs, Application Gateway/WAF, load balancers.
• Postgres Flexible Server, Redis, Blob storage sizing and failover.
• Entra ID RBAC and service principal management.
• Clear runbooks and on-call plan written for live environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication during live calls.

Responsibilities

• Stand up new platforms from scratch (network, compute, data, pipelines).
• Architect decisions on in-place updates vs. destructive changes; avoid blind applies on production.
• Migrate live platforms to new foundations with rollback plans in place.
• Keep platforms healthy over time with upgrades, drift control, and security.
• Collaborate with client DevOps engineers and explain plans clearly to unblock failures.
