Job summary

Braintrust in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior AWS Redshift Data Engineer for a full-time 1099 contract through year-end. Based in Austin, the role pays an hourly rate of USD 140–173.

You will lead optimization of large-scale AWS Redshift clusters, support ETL pipelines with Kafka and ECS, and improve BI performance with Looker to enable analytics and AI-enabled workflows. Collaboration with data engineering and BI teams is essential.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of experience in data engineering, database administration, or related roles.
• Must be based in the United States.
• Extensive experience optimizing AWS Redshift clusters, including environments with hundreds of terabytes of data.
• Strong experience tuning, repairing, and maintaining heavily queried and frequently updated Redshift tables.
• Experience configuring and managing Kafka streams.
• Experience with Looker or a similar BI platform.
• Familiarity with Python and/or AI-enabled data workflows is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead optimization and ongoing maintenance of large-scale AWS Redshift clusters to ensure robust data warehouse performance and scalable queries (60%).
• Enhance and support ETL pipelines, leveraging Kafka streaming and ECS-based jobs to guarantee timely data delivery and reliability (30%).
• Improve BI performance and data availability for reporting tools, including Looker, to support analytics needs (10%).
• Prepare data assets for AI-enabled applications and MCPs to enable AI workflows.
• Collaborate closely with the data engineering and BI teams to align data strategies and delivery.
