Senior AWS Cloud DevOps Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEWKBR is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior AWS Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our team in delivering innovative and mission-critical cloud solutions to our customers. As part of a global leader in science, technology, and engineering solutions, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing our hybrid-cloud strategies while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

This role will allow you to leverage your expertise in AWS technologies, DevOps methodologies, and automation tools to architect and implement secure, reliable, and resilient cloud solutions that support our clients' most critical objectives.

This on-site position, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, offers the opportunity to work closely with a highly skilled and diverse team, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and joint problem-solving. While this role primarily requires on-site collaboration, there may be opportunities for remote work as part of the employment package, though these cannot be guaranteed. Responsibilities

Lead the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of processes and capabilities to advance hybrid-cloud strategies for KBR’s customers.

Collaborate with solution architects and cross-functional design teams to deliver secure, scalable, and cost-effective hybrid-cloud solutions in a FedRAMP high environment.

Develop and maintain tools for provisioning, monitoring, auditing, and de-provisioning hybrid-cloud infrastructure using Python, Ansible, and other automation tools.

Partner with architects and engineers to design networks, systems, and storage environments aligned with customer needs, security requirements, and service-level objectives.

Manage CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure technologies using industry-standard tools like GitLab Runners.

Incorporate FinOps principles into hybrid-cloud strategies, ensuring cost optimization, resource accountability, and operational efficiency.

Design and implement scalable software services in collaboration with engineering and architecture teams.

Troubleshoot and provide support for core business applications within a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

Develop strategic road maps and project implementation plans tailored to customer requirements.

Identify and present recommendations for cost savings, security improvements, and best practices across AWS services and compliance requirements.

Address complex technical challenges, providing actionable solutions to senior leadership.

Mentor and lead junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Required Skills/Experience

Technical Expertise:

10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, systems administration, or equivalent roles, with a strong emphasis on AWS technologies.

5+ years of experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and automation.

In-depth knowledge of AWS Security, Network Controls, and FedRAMP compliance requirements.

Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools - Terraform or AWS CDK.

Proficiency in configuration management tools, such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.

Expertise in scripting languages such as Python, Bash/Shell, or PowerShell for infrastructure automation.

Experience implementing cost-effective, FinOps-aligned cloud solutions.

Leadership And Collaboration

Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth.

Proven track record of working effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders.

Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in collaboration with team members.

Problem-Solving And Innovation

Exceptional problem-solving skills with a passion for identifying innovative, scalable, and cost-efficient solutions.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and deliver high-quality results under pressure.

Communication And Documentation

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations to senior leadership and customers.

Strong technical documentation skills for designing and implementing cloud infrastructure.

Required Certifications And Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

AWS Associate Certification required, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Associate.

Terraform Associate certification.

Familiarity with Agile techniques and modern software engineering principles is a plus.

Preferred Skills/Experience

AWS Professional Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional).

AWS Specialty Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Security – Specialty, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty).

Experience engineering and deploying public sector solutions.

Expert skills and experience with AWS services such as S3, CloudFront, EKS, Lambda, Aurora Serverless DB, and AWS Batch.

Demonstrated experience incorporating FinOps principles into cloud strategies.

Special Requirements

Three years of continuous residency in the U.S. for issuance of a Government Security credential

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account
