Job summary

CMC Electronics Inc. seeks an experienced Senior Systems Engineer for the Reston, VA site to lead Flight Management System design and integration efforts.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure avionics reliability and interoperability across aircraft systems. The role emphasizes DO-178, ARINC standards, and FMS proficiency, with opportunities to influence hardware/software integration, testing, and travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master degree in electrical, aerospace, or computer engineering.
• 5+ years in development/verification of commercial/military avionics systems (FMS, Sensors, Displays, Autopilot, MCDU).
• Experience developing real-time embedded systems with hardware/software integration.
• Experience with flight simulators, emulators, logic analyzers and test equipment.
• Knowledge of civil/military avionics standards and practices: DO-178 (or equivalent), MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429.
• Knowledge of FMS (ARINC 702A), RNP and FANS Datalink concepts.

Responsibilities

• Review customer requests and develop technical responses to meet requirements.
• Interface with system designers and customer representatives to assess impact and recommend solutions.
• Understand avionics design problems and ensure functional system synthesis.
• Follow up with hardware and software development teams.
• Validate and verify principles and translate design into hardware/software solutions.
• Contribute to all phases of the system development life cycle (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment).
• Produce or review system level specifications.
• Produce or review technical manuals.
• Plan, set up and participate in avionics systems verification testing across interfacing systems.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for processes and products.
• Learn industry standards and incorporate them into product design.
• Support CMC Airworthiness with Transport Canada CAN-TSO Design Approval.
• May be required to travel occasionally.
