Job summary

CMC Electronics in Reston, VA is seeking an Engineering Manager, Avionics Software to lead the avionics software team, shape development processes, and drive DO-178B/C certification readiness for regulated avionics programs.

You will recruit and develop engineers, coordinate with Quality and Compliance, manage estimates and staffing, and advance engineering tools and processes to improve quality, predictability, and productivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software/engineering or equivalent; master's degree is an asset
• Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience in avionics or safety‑critical systems
• Strong DO‑178B/C experience including planning, traceability, and certification evidence

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow and manage the avionics software engineering team in Reston
• Ensure compliance with DO‑178B/C, regulatory and project requirements
• Develop resource plans and staffing for programs, and provide estimates
• Improve engineering processes, tools, and standards
• Coordinate with Quality/Compliance, PMs, and cross‑functional teams
• Drive quality, predictability, and productivity improvements
