Job summary

Relativity Space in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Senior Avionics PCBA Development Engineer to lead the bring-up of new avionics prototypes and partner with design and manufacturing teams. You will collaborate across avionics, propulsion, and manufacturing to ensure rapid iteration and robust hardware for Terran R.

You will program machines, optimize processes, conduct inspections, and troubleshoot defects hands-on while maintaining documentation and supporting handover to mass production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • 5–8 years of hands-on PCBA assembly in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with SMT equipment including solder paste printers, pick-and-place, and reflow ovens.
  • Professional-grade soldering and rework skills, including component replacement and BGA rework.
  • Strong understanding of SMT processes, defects, and inspection methods (visual, AOI, X-ray).
  • Ability to read PCB drawings, schematics, and datasheets; build automation tools to improve data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Review PCB designs for manufacturability and partner with hardware engineers to resolve assembly issues before builds begin.
  • Operate the full SMT line: support operation of every station on the line for Avionics prototype builds.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot: perform first-article inspections and drive root-cause actions.
  • Program and optimize equipment: develop programs and tune parameters, placement routines, and reflow profiles.
  • Build and rework hardware: perform prototype and qualification builds and soldering/rework.
  • Maintain process control documentation: keep work instructions, drawings, inspection criteria, and specs current.
  • Develop automation tools: build and enhance tools for machine-programming, data-collection pipelines, and analysis workflows.
