Job summary

Firefly Aerospace, headquartered in north Austin, Texas, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead avionics packaging design for launch vehicles and spacecraft. You will own complex electronics enclosures, drive design architectures, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure mission success.

The role requires performing advanced thermal and structural analyses, overseeing test fixtures and GSE, and guiding formal design reviews (PDR/CDR).

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5+ years designing high-reliability electronics packaging and electro-mechanical assemblies.
• 3D CAD design experience with NX.
• Proficiency with NX and ANSYS for FEA.
• Experience with multi-layer PCBA enclosure design and TIMs.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture of ruggedized electronics packaging for PCB assemblies.
• Design and optimize complex electro-mechanical assemblies for extreme environments.
• Perform advanced thermal analyses for space electronics.
• Perform modal, random vibration, and shock analyses for launch.
• Oversee test fixturing and ground support equipment for electronics.
• Define and lead vibration, thermal vacuum campaigns for qualification.
• Create CAD models, drawings, and documentation; lead PDR/CDR reviews.
• Collaborate with PCB design to establish mounting strategies and thermal management.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and establish design best practices.
