Job summary

American Sound in Phoenix, AZ seeks an experienced AV Design Engineer to plan, design, and oversee installation of complex AV systems for diverse clients. You will translate requirements into BOMs, develop detailed system designs, and coordinate with IT and construction teams to ensure seamless integration and reliable operation.

The role requires 5+ years in AV design, a related degree, and proficiency with AutoCAD; CTS/CTS-D/CQD certifications are advantageous.

Qualifications

• 5 years of commercial AV design experience.
• Degree in electrical, audio, or related field preferred.
• CTS/CTS-D/CQD certifications are advantageous.
• Proficiency with AV design software including AutoCAD.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with sales and clients to understand AV/UC needs and project goals.
• Translate client expectations into BOMs and Scope of Work.
• Develop comprehensive AV/UC system designs including audio, video, lighting, control, and network.
• Consider acoustics, equipment placement, cabling, and user experience.
• Coordinate with IT, electrical, fire, security, structural and architectural teams.
• Modify architectural drawings to incorporate AV elements.
• Evaluate AV/UC equipment such as projectors, displays, cameras, DSPs, speakers, and switches.
• Ensure compatibility, performance, and reliability of AV solutions.
• Attend design and programming meetings to align solutions with requirements.
• Collaborate with vendors, programmers, technicians, and project managers to execute implementation.
• Ensure reliable operation during events or daily use and diagnose issues promptly.
• Add callouts on architectural drawings and create elevations, rack layouts, and wiring details.
