Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Tucson, AZ seeks a Systems Engineer to bridge Autonomy Hauling Application teams with L6 base machine systems, integrating autonomy hardware and software with machines.

You will collaborate with architects and engineers to fulfill architecture requirements and to ensure timely delivery of software changes for hauling releases. This role requires onsite work in Tucson and up to 20% travel.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Work with Autonomy Systems integration engineers to ensure product architecture requirements are fulfilled.
• Collaborate with Technical program managers and Application Architects to meet program requirements (time, cost, quality).
• Ensure base machine software changes are delivered on time for hauling releases (NPI/CPI).
• Support Field data collection kits activities (design, procurement, shipping, test support).
• Document architecture specifications, software design, verification plans, test cases, procedures, and safety procedures.
• Assist in verification/validation including hardware-in-the-loop and proving ground tests.
• Contribute to design and development of application software and algorithms for robotic platforms.

As a Systems Engineer, you will work as the engineering interface between L8 Autonomous Hauling Application teams and L6 base machine systems teams. You will be responsible for autonomy hardware and software solution integration with base machine systems.

What You Will Do

• Work closely with Autonomy Systems integration engineers and architects to ensure the product architecture requirements are fulfilled.
• Work with Technical program managers and Application Architects to ensure that program requirements are being met (time, cost, quality).
• Ensure that Base machine software changes are delivered on time for command for hauling releases. These can be NPI and CPI solutions depending on the state of the program.
• Support Field data collection kits activities. Including design support, procurement, coordinating shipping to site, and kit test support.
• Documenting architecture specifications, software design description, verification plans, test cases, operating procedures, and safety procedures.
• Assisting in the verification and validation process. Includes supporting/troubleshooting hardware in the loop and proving ground test and development.
• Participating in design and development of application software and algorithms for robotic platforms.

What You Have

• Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
• Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.
• Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
• Software Product Testing: Knowledge of software product testing; ability to design, plan, and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure software product quality and adherence to stated requirements.
• Application Development Tools: Knowledge of application and system development; ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for developing applications.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
• Education Requirements: Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Consideration For Top Candidates

• Proven experience as a Systems Engineer supporting requirements definition on technical engineering product development projects
• Mining or Construction Industry Experience required
• Experience developing and defining system level requirements
• Prior development or engineering experience preferred
• Prior experience in systems integration preferred

Summary Pay Range

$112,710.00 - $183,140.00
