Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Senior Buyer for an on-site role in Chesterfield, MI. You will manage supplier relationships, drive cost reduction, and oversee purchasing policies to improve efficiency.

The position requires collaboration with engineering and quality teams and oversight of bids and contracts. The role emphasizes negotiation, program management, and strong analytical skills, with a focus on automotive OEMs experience and high mix low volume purchasing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in procurement or supply chain management.
• Experience with FCA, GM, Ford, Volkswagen, and/or Honda preferred.
• High Mix Low Volume work experience.
• Powertrain, driveline, or brake line purchasing experience.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong understanding of cost modeling, market analysis, and market supply.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple programs and customers.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, procedures, and terms & conditions.
• Collaborate with product engineering and quality organizations to define detailed supplier requirements.
• Locate vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales.
• Prepare bid awards requiring board approval.
• Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
• Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.
• Administer online purchasing systems.
• Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
• Develop cost reduction strategies and savings plans.
• Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers.
• Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
• Participate in the development of specifications for equipment or products.
• Maintain records of goods ordered and received.
• Negotiate contracts and formulate policies with suppliers.
• Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise costs.
• Arrange for disposal of surplus materials.
• Develop operating strategies, plans, or procedures.
• Implement organizational process or policy changes.
• Interview employees, customers, or others to collect information and coordinate with external parties to exchange information.
