Job summary

Metallus in Canton, OH, is seeking an Automation Technician to lead advanced control-system improvements in a steel-mill environment. The role focuses on PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming, system upgrades, and thorough documentation to ensure reliable, safe operation.

Collaborating with engineers, maintenance staff, and external integrators, you will implement automation and robotics, support safety systems, perform troubleshooting, and drive continuous improvement across the facility.

Qualifications

High School Diploma with 12 years of automation/industrial experience.
Associates or higher in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or Automation preferred with 8–10+ years in automation.
Bachelors in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or Automation with 8+ years in industrial automation.

Responsibilities

Develop, modify, test, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
Execute system upgrades, migrations, and enhancements while ensuring integrity.
Create and maintain control narratives, schematics, and programming standards.
Analyze control system performance and implement improvements.
Design and support safety control systems and participate in risk assessments.
Support robotic system integration and optimization.
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis across control and equipment systems.
Analyze system interactions including drives, instrumentation, valves, and actuators.
Coordinate with integrators and support FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning.
Support startup, ramp-up, and optimization of systems.
Drive continuous improvement and standardization across the facility.
Participate in audits and ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
