Job summary

AVN Corporation in South Charleston, WV seeks an Automation Specialist to design and implement process control strategies for chemical R&D and pilot plants. You will configure DCS, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA while supporting instrumentation and field sensors across labs and pilot facilities.

The role requires collaboration with process engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to maintain control narratives, safety interlocks, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in process control configuration and automation in chemical/pharma or similar industries.
• Understanding networking of DCS with peripheral hardware and data historians.
• Proficiency with PLC/HMI programming (Siemens/DeltaV/AB).

Responsibilities

• Design, program, test, and troubleshoot process control systems (PLC/SCADA/DCS).
• Configure and maintain field instrumentation (pressure, temp, flow, etc.).
• Collaborate with engineers to translate process needs into control functionality.
• Develop control logic, alarms, interlocks, and operator interfaces.
• Support start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems.
• Lead upkeep and expansion planning for control systems and peripheral equipment.
• Evaluate emerging control technologies for R&D and pilot-scale environments.
• Ensure safety, standards, and quality compliance in automation work.
