Job summary

HelloFresh in Newark, NJ is seeking a Lead Automation Engineer to design, implement, and optimize automation across the fulfillment network. You will lead vendor collaborations, RFQ creation, and end-to-end system designs for AMRs, AS/RS, sortation, and other automation solutions.

You will mentor engineers, translate complex technical details into clear documentation, and drive data analysis to measure project success.

Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar field required.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience in multi-site industrial distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments preferred.
  • Experience with Warehouse Conveyance and PLCs.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment/systems operations.
  • Experience with WCS/WES and WMS systems.
  • Experience with SQL and data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana).
  • Experience with AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design effort for implementing new technology within a distribution center; including RFQ creation and requirements documentation.
  • Partner with external vendors and system integrators to develop automated order fulfillment solutions.
  • Own data analytics efforts to design and measure success of automation projects.
  • Optimize distribution center layouts, material flows, and automation equipment.
  • Work autonomously with cross-functional teams to meet business needs.
  • Own business case justification for new technology and CapEx purchases.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and translate technical info into clear presentations.

Title: Lead Automation Engineer

Job Description: The Lead Automation Engineer brings highly technical experience in designing, implementing, and improving Automation systems within the fulfillment network. This role works closely with functional stakeholders, vendors, and other engineers to solve ambiguous problems autonomously.

You will …

  • Principal point of contact with external vendors and system integrators to develop automated order fulfillment solutions utilizing top industry technology such as AMRs, Robotics, ASRS, sortation systems, etc.
  • Lead the design effort for implementing new technology within a distribution center; including creating detailed Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and requirements documentation to ensure a cohesive end-to-end design.
  • Lead data analytic efforts for designing and measuring success for Automation projects. Ability to extract clear and concise outputs from messy inputs.
  • Strong experience with optimizing Distribution Center layouts, material flows, Automation equipment, etc.
  • Work autonomously with cross-functional team members to ensure their business needs are met by new system designs.
  • Owner of business case justification for new technology and/or CapEx purchases
  • Coach and mentor for junior engineers and team members, improving their technical and soft skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into simple documentation and presentations, independently.

  • Experience with Warehouse Conveyance (Right Angle Transfers, MDR, Sortation, Spirals, etc.) including working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate.
  • Experience with using Warehouse Control Systems (WCS/WES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana, etc.)
  • Experience with AutoCAD

Texas Pay Range: $127,890 — $147,900 USD

Newark, NJ Pay Range: $147,000 — $170,000 USD

Arizona Pay Range: $127,890 — $147,900 USD
