A leading company in the construction technology sector is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to innovate automation solutions for factory operations. The role involves designing and deploying systems that integrate hardware and software in a dynamic manufacturing environment, requiring a blend of technical skills and quick problem-solving abilities.
Reframe Systems is on a mission to build fast, cost-efficient, and climate-resilient homes for everyone. Through our modular building platform and highly automated production process, we reduce costs, shorten delivery times, and lower embodied carbon for housing projects of all sizes—from single-family homes to large multifamily developments. Our first software-driven factory in the greater Boston area (Andover, MA) is just the beginning of our national expansion. Backed by leading venture capital firms in the industrial and construction sectors, we are transforming how homes are built.
Reframe is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to design, prototype, and deploy industrial automation solutions that scale our factory operations. You’ll work across PLCs, motor control systems, actuated machines, and custom software to deliver fast, scrappy, and reliable automation in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment. This role sits at the intersection of hardware and software—perfect for someone who thrives in production settings and wants to own problems end-to-end.
Design, develop, and commission automation systems using PLCs, sensors, actuators, and industrial IO
Build and prototype electromechanical subsystems, such as gantries, CNCs, IoT, and material-handling equipment
Integrate industrial hardware with custom software applications and cloud-based tools
Debug and improve legacy and new systems under tight feedback loops, in a live factory setting
Lead bring-up and iteration of scrappy prototypes into production-ready systems
Collaborate with software, manufacturing, and mechanical teams to build full-stack automation solutions
Proven experience programming PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Codesys, etc.) and integrating industrial IO
Hands-on experience with motion control, servo drives, stepper systems, or similar
Demonstrated ability to move quickly from prototype to production in a factory or similar high-stakes environment
Comfort writing software to interface with hardware (e.g., using Python, Node, or industrial APIs)
High agency and self-direction—ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
Bonus: experience with vision systems, safety relay integration, or building gantry-type systems
If you don’t meet every qualification but are excited about our mission, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse skills and perspectives.
